Giving Tuesday is an opportunity each year to support those in need locally, nationally and globally.
'Tis the season for giving!
This year, more than ever, more people are in need. I'm providing some amazing organizations that I would highly recommend and already support through DHP or personally.
Simply choose one that combines your values and passions and seems like an organization you might support year round in their mission.
Food for Kids: This is local to Darien and provides meals for food insecure children in our community. It is $150 to feed one child for a school year or $4 for a weekend. (Scroll about half way down the page and there are other links near the bottom.)
Teen Parent Connection: They provide education, support, and resources to adolescent parents and their children in DuPage County, Illinois. Their primary goal is to provide services that will prevent child abuse and neglect among this at-risk population. When you donate, your gift will be doubled by wonderful match partners which you will see on the main page via the link above.
Family Shelter Services: Exceptional and dedicated Metropolitan staff members consistently work to provide critical services and programs that ensure individuals and families receive the support and resources they need to handle life’s challenges. Metropolitan Family Services makes a difference in their lives and provides hope for their future. Every family is encouraged to work together to realize their amazing strength.
311 Project: They serve individuals that are struggling to provide basic necessities for themselves and their families. Their work is dedicated to inspiring those in the community to build friendships and show compassion through service to one another. They use social media for social good to make sure NOBODY has to struggle alone. You can join them by donating money, goods, gift cards or becoming a sponsor!
People's Resource Center: The PRC meets families and individuals where they are and help them to continue to grow and become self-sufficient. There are many ways to get involved so check them out.
DuPage Senior Citizens Council: Personally, I've realized just how impacted the seniors in our community have been by this pandemic and am grateful for organizations like this that are serving them. There are lots of ways to get involved today and every day throughout the year. Check out the Donate and Volunteering tabs on their website!
Girls on the Run: An organization empowering young girls through providing a safe space for them to realize their potential, develop confidence and stand strong. A variety of ways to get involved in this program! If you are a runner, this is going to speak to your deepest core!
Feeding America: One dollar....ONE DOLLAR...can help provide at least 10 meals to families in need through the Feeding American network of foodbanks that are serving more families than ever before in the midst of this pandemic!
Convoy of Hope: They provide first response services to those experiencing disasters here at home and around the world. This is just one of the services they provide. Get involved in many ways including financial donations and by volunteering your time.
Africa New Life: This organization is near and dear to my heart as my husband and I have met and now sponsor two children in Rwanda through ANL. Through sponsorship, they teach children, develop communities so they can thrive for generations to come, help them and their families grow their faith while providing health service as needed. I've seen first hand the work they are doing in a country that was ravaged by a genocide in the not so distant past and it is truly remarkable to see the change that can happen when we invest in children and their families.
